The Managing Director of the Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) announced that Imam Khomeini, Shahid Rajaee, and Amirabad ports are set to be upgraded to third-generation ports by the end of the country’s Seventh National Development Plan.

Saeed Rasouli, who also serves as Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development, said the planned upgrades focus on transforming these key ports beyond traditional loading and unloading operations. He noted that while the Seventh Development Plan prioritizes the three ports, the PMO may also consider upgrading additional ports in the coming years, depending on available capacity and conditions.

Rasouli emphasized that the PMO’s broader strategy across all Iranian ports is centered on technological advancement and digital transformation. He explained that third-generation ports integrate logistics services, related industries, and value chains, enabling them to play an active role in production, distribution, and transit.

According to the PMO chief, this structural transformation is intended to enhance logistics efficiency and strengthen the role of Iran’s ports within national and regional supply chains.
